5. Give yourself incentive not to drink. For every day (or even every hour!) that passes that you don’t drink, give yourself a pat on the back! Give yourself the credit you deserve for having the strength to stop drinking and share those big victories with family and friends.

6. Picture yourself how you would look in the future when you’re completely alcohol-free. Visualization is very powerful in helping you make the right decisions, and you will feel that reality get closer daily, which will help to maintain your strength to resist alcohol.

7. Keep goals obtainable. Don’t set your goals so high that you can’t reach them and leave you frustrated. Maybe you can’t just quit all at once. At least set a goal of having one less drink today and then one less than that tomorrow. Small steps are better than no steps.

8. Deal with the psychological and emotional issues related to your drinking problem. Many people begin drinking alcohol to get away from problems or maybe alcoholism is something that runs in the family. Find someone you feel comfortable talking to about these problems.

9. Take part in positive and meaningful activities. Community work is a great way to make yourself feel needed too, and there really is no better reward in this world than when you give.

10. You may also find that believing in God helps too. It is some what reassuring that there is a God All Mighty, and that we are just part of his great plan. So trust in him, and things will seem better immediately.

11. Helping others should always be a prime objective in Alcoholics Anonymous, so when you feel strong enough go out of your way to find other people who would be better off without alcohol dominating their lives.

12. Last but not least, never, ever give up believing in yourself, and that you made the right decision for both you and everyone who loves you.

StopI seem to lost count on how many times I’ve read and heard of celebrity marriages failing almost left and right. Not that I care (and personally I don’t), it seems strange that we often see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of riches and glamor. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality.

There are many ways to lose your sense of self-esteem despite of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should all try not to lose our own sense of self. Now I am talking to those alcoholics who realize that the alcohol has now taken over their life, and there is a little voice inside you saying “It’s time to quit drinking”, I need to know “How To Quit Drinking“. So listen carefully to that voice and discover what it takes to be a cut above the rest. Here are some of the things for you to think over and improve on during the coming week.

Now basically I’ve taken the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Steps guide, and re-divided them into a 7 day plan to help anybody how would like to really be bold how to quit drinking. So here we go, so get yourself ready for a new chapter in your life, free of any obsession or craving for alcohol…

1. Know your purpose: Are you wandering through life with little direction - hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself.

2. Avoid stress sneezers: Stressed people sneeze stress germs indiscriminately and before you know it, you are infected too! Protect yourself by recognizing stress in others and limiting your contact with them. Or if you’ve got the inclination, play stress doctor and teach them how to better manage themselves.

3. Know your needs: Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who lived their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met before it’s too late!

4. Practice socially acceptable heavy breathing: This is something I’ve learned from a gym instructor: You can trick your body into relaxing by using heavy breathing. Breathe in slowly for a count of 7 then breathe out for a count of 11. Repeat the 7-11 breathing until your heart rate slows down, your sweaty palms dry off and things start to feel more normal.

Give stressy thoughts the red light: It is possible to tangle yourself up in a stress knot all by yourself. “If this happens, then that might happen and then we’re all up the creek!” Most of these things never happen, so why waste all that energy worrying needlessly? Give stress thought-trains the red light and stop them in their tracks. Okay so it might go wrong - how likely is that, and what can you do to prevent it?

6. Honor your strengths: What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three - if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others.

7. Burn the candle at one end: Lack of sleep, poor diet and no exercise wreaks havoc on our body and mind. Kind of obvious, but worth mentioning as it’s often ignored as a stress management technique. Listen to your mother and don’t burn the candle at both ends! So having stress can be a total drag, but that should not hinder us to find the inner peace of mind that we have wanted for a long time. In any case, one could always go to the Bahamas and bask under the summer sun.

If you are alcoholic or have other medical problems, you should not just cut down on your drinking–you should stop drinking completely. Your doctor will advise you about what is right for you.

Here are some steps can help you if your doctor tells you to cut down on your drinking:

1. Write down your reasons for cutting down or stopping.

Why do you want to drink less? There are many reasons why you may want to cut down or stop drinking. You may want to improve your health, sleep better, or get along better with your family or friends. Make a list of the reasons you want to drink less.

2. Set a drinking goal.

Choose a limit for how much you will drink. You may choose to cut down or not to drink at all. If you are cutting down, keep below these limits:

Women: No more than one alcoholic drink per day

Men: No more than two drinks a day

A drink is:- one 12-ounce bottle of beer; one 5-ounce glass of wine; or one 1 1/2-ounce shot of liquor. Depending on any medical issues you may have these limits may be too high. Talk with your doctor and decide on a limit that is right for you.

Write your daily goal to help you quit drinking permanently on a piece of paper. Put it where you can see it daily, such as on your refrigerator, on a bathroom mirror or even on the end of your nose if that is where you need it to be permanently reminded that you want your life back.

As you create your plan toward being alcohol free, understand that you do not have to quit immediately. Doing this may lead to episodes of binge drinking when temptation proves too strong. Alcohol is a fierce opponent that wants to win. A chronic alcoholic that stops drinking all at once increases their chance of physical withdrawal symptoms and relapse.
