When someone is in the position to help another person quit drinking and is successful in doing so, that person will without a doubt feel good about themselves in that they were actually able to help somebody in real need.

There may come a time when you think you are really helping someone, but in fact you might only be hurting them, especially when helping a person who needs to quit drinking.

People with an alcohol addiction need be able to help themselves before a friend is able to help them. They must possess that need to actually want to become permanently sober. Once that is quite clear in their head, then a friend will be able to help them quit drinking.

If I should refer back to my experiences with alcohol addiction, I remember people would talk to me about the subject of me giving up drinking and I would just listen, but nothing they were saying to me would actually sink in. I would just listen to be polite, I really didn’t really care at all about what they were saying to me.

An alcoholic must really want to surrender to an addiction and decide to quit drinking before anything will actually change in their lives. It could possibly take quite a while for that to happen, if it happens at all, as without determination, willingness or the desire to become sober, an alcoholic will just carry on with their addiction to alcohol.

But once they have made the right choice to quit drinking, the real underlying message to help a friend would be to let them live with you, although make sure that;-

1) Don’t allow them to talk you round into giving them money.

2) Do not give them a choice of how they live their life under your roof.

3) Tell them that they can only live in your home under your conditions.

4) Always stand up to them and don’t let them rule the roost.

5) Help them get any medical support they may require to quit drinking.

6) Explain to them just how life will be so much better should they become sober.

7) Tell them just how much you care for them and assist them in their recovery 24 hours a day.

Take them out for walks in the country so they get plenty of fresh air and healthy exercise

9) Introduce them to new friends who don’t rely on alcohol to get through the day, or who have already taken the road that they are currently on.

10) Get them interested in taking up a new hobby, sporting activity or anything that will help them to forget about alcohol

Within a few weeks they will have managed to quit drinking through your help, so if you do know somebody in need put these steps into action, and you too will achieve something extremely meaningful in your life, as there is no greater feeling when you realize that you have managed to help a friend in need, and i can assure you that your friendship will always remain as solid as a rock…
